Practical experience with grapefruit seed extract for irritable stomach and irritable bowel complaints
Digestive complaints, especially irritable stomach and irritable bowel syndrome, often require an individualized treatment strategy. While guidelines recommend a clear approach with lifestyle adjustments, dietary changes and, if necessary, medication, patients often show a preference in practice for herbal therapies, which are considered effective and have few side effects. As there are not yet enough placebo-controlled, randomized clinical trials available for many herbal preparations, including grapefruit seed extract (CitroBiotic®), practical experience is of great importance. In this context, seven case reports from specialist physicians were documented under the scientific supervision of Prof. Dr. med. Martin Storr, specialist in internal medicine and gastroenterology at the Center for Endoscopy in Starnberg. These case descriptions offer valuable insights into the use of grapefruit seed extract for functional gastrointestinal complaints and can serve as a basis for decision-making in everyday practice. The compiled experiences should help to facilitate well-founded patient care. You can download the case report as a PDF here: Casuistry CitroBiotic
